How Doorifi Saved the Day for a Couple of Hometown Heroes
Sold their home to Doorifi in San Antonio, TX
When we asked Ricardo Rodriguez if he’d ever sold a home before, he sighed and replied with two words: “Oh lordy.”
Ricardo has called San Antonio home for 58 years, where he and his wife Teresa settled after serving in the military. He joined the Navy at 17, and she made history in the Army as one of the early female drill sergeants in the 90s. “She was making sure those soldiers were the future of the U.S. Army,” Ricardo says proudly.
Years ago, Ricardo nominated Teresa as a hometown hero in Cincinnati. She won, and even got to throw the opening pitch at a Reds game. Nervous about missing the plate, she practiced with Ricardo—determined not to have a “50 Cent” moment. As it turned out, she was a natural.
“I gave her a baseball and set her sixty feet and six inches away. She threw a perfect strike.”
The couple lived in Bristol Place, a quiet community Ricardo has loved since it was farmland. Both are disabled veterans, and their two-story home—with a laundry room upstairs—was becoming a challenge. They relied on their above-ground pool for exercise, but getting in and out was tough.
Over the years, they tried to sell their home five or six times with no luck. Showings were exhausting:
“We’d be in the middle of dinner, and suddenly we had to put everything away and be out within an hour,” Ricardo recalls. “We’d load the grandkids and the puppy into the car just to kill time. Sometimes we wouldn’t even hear back from buyers.”
Then one day, a letter from Doorifi arrived in the mail—just when they’d been trying to sell again.
“Being a former postal worker, I usually don’t open pre-sorted mail. But something told me to open this one,” Ricardo says.
That decision changed everything. Within days of entering their home details on Doorifi’s site, they received a fair offer—no showings, no endless waiting. They could even choose their close date to avoid moving twice while their new home was being built.
“Doorifi gave us flexibility. Without it, we’d have to rent, move our furniture, then move again when the home was ready.”
Now, with their new home almost complete, Ricardo and Teresa are looking forward to an in-ground pool and a laundry room that won’t require climbing stairs.
We asked Ricardo how Doorifi compared to listing the traditional way:
“I’m very, very impressed with Doorifi. You treated us like family. We’re just tickled pink.”
